Kids On Track...Through Fitness & Nutrition

In 2007 America On Track imlemented the Kids On Track...Through Fitness & Nutrition program after receiving
the Carol M. White Physical Education Program
grant from the U.S. Department of Education
Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools.
The comprehensive fitness program, that
targeted disadvantaged elementeary school
children living in a primarily Hispanic, overcrowded neighborhood with only one park for over 40, 000 residents has proved very successful.

The following, multi-dimensional intensive services were being provided to well over 1,000 people (K-5th grade students, teachers, parents, and community residents) on a daily basis through this PEP grant:

On Track's fitness and nutrution program is based on the expectation that the promotion of positive physical education skills, knowledge and goals in young children will help them develop a lifelong commitment to their own physical well-being,
health and fitness.

(1) The proven CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) curriculum for students during school hours as well as during after school programs;

(2) The award-winning Kids On Track…Through Mentoring
& Fitness program;

(3) PowerPlayMD-OC/Dr. Alberto Gedissman
a pediatrician-directed childhood obesity prevention program;

(4) Teen Champions for Health & Fitness as mentors and role models;

(5) The On Track Parent Council nutrition seminars;

(6) Staff development and training of the school staff
and physical education specialists.
